I was given the great opportunity to attend a ladies conference this weekend. Elise Fitzpatrick taught on "God's Transforming Love". She brought us back to the Gospel, reminding us that we all too often become too familiar with the Gospel, as though it becomes common place. She asked us a question, which pierced my heart. "In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?"
What are your attentions focused on?
Your Desires?
Your Sins?
Your Savior?
Remember Calvary! She reminded us that the Gospel is for Every Day! When is my everyday life, and what goes on through it ever supposed to be more about me than it is about Jesus? NEVER! Going through the things in my everyday life...like being stuck in traffic, when my toilets overflow, washer not worker, issues with the children. How am I responding? What does the birth, life, death, burial & Resurrection of Jesus, have to do with these things? EVERYTHING! All too often I forget, because of the Gospel becoming so familiar.
"May I not become familiar with the things of Christ." God poured EVERY DROP OF WRATH upon His precious Son, for ALL the sins of all who will believe. There is no wrath left for those He has chosen to be His. I want my attentions to be on what He has done. But many times our Christianity focuses on what we do or need to do instead of what Jesus already did.
I have much more I would like to share, but today I will close with the Heidelberg Catechism. Elise shared this with us this weekend. And it really puts things clearly for me.
Question 60.
How are thou righteous before God?Answer:
Only by a true faith in Jesus Christ; (a) so that, though my conscience accuse me, that I have grossly transgressed all the commandments of God, and kept none of them, (b) and am still inclined to all evil; (c) notwithstanding, God, without any merit of mine, (d) but only of mere grace, (e) grants and imputes to me, (f) the perfect satisfaction, (g) righteousness and holiness of Christ; (h) even so, as if I never had had, nor committed any sin: yea, as if I had fully accomplished all that obedience which Christ has accomplished for me; (i) inasmuch as I embrace such benefit with a believing heart.
